Day 24: SURRENDER

October 31, 2007

Come to Me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.

Matthew 11:28

In wartimes the sign for surrender was a white flag, or at least it was when you played cops and robbers in the neighborhood. When an army had taken all it could take, and nothing more could be done in battle they waived the white flag of surrender. This surrender was not a halfway surrender. The white flag meant we are finished, done; we surrender all that we have. The word surrender means complete abandonment. Are you completely abandoned to God? Be careful how you answer that question because surrendering to God can be very costly. Being completely surrendered means you trust God to do what He thinks is best for your life. God wants all of us, and it is in our best interest to give all of ourselves to Him.

God created us for a unique and wonderful purpose, but in order for us to understand what that purpose is we must first surrender our lives to Him. The reason surrender is a difficult thing for most of us is because we want to be in control! We want to know where our life is heading and why. When we can be satisfied with God’s plan for our life, and not our own, God will give us the desires of our hearts; He will give us rest. Have you ever heard the saying “childlike faith”? Child-like faith means that you believe whatever God tells you. You don’t question God’s direction; you just go where He goes. That is what God is asking of us, complete devotion to Him.

Prayer Focus: Think about the areas of your life that you have given to God. Think about your personal life, your family life, your church life, and your future. Are their areas that you have surrendered more than others? Consider taking a bold step of faith today and give God an area of your life that you have been keeping tight control on up until now. Let go, and let God.
